Happy New Year, Stouffville! 🎉

As we begin a new year, I want to wish you and your family health, happiness, and success. I’m deeply grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me and for the many conversations, ideas, and partnerships that continue to shape Whitchurch-Stouffville.

2025 was a year of real progress — and a reminder of what we can achieve when we focus on smart planning, community safety, and quality of life.

✔️ Progress You Can See in Your Community

This past year, we delivered meaningful investments that strengthen everyday life in Stouffville:

  • New community spaces, including the opening of Sugar Maple Park, with accessible play components that encourage interactive, play-based experiences for children of all abilities.

  • Continued national recognition of Stouffville as one of Canada’s most livable communities. #13 in Canada, #2 in Ontario and #1 in York Region.

  • Ongoing planning for the revitalization of our downtown, which will include 2 urban parkettes. Construction begins later this year.

These are not just projects — they’re commitments kept.

🏡 Standing Up for Housing Choice & Affordability

Housing affordability continues to challenge families, seniors, and young people alike. In 2025, we took action by launching a new Affordable Housing Community Improvement Plan, backed by federal funding, to encourage diverse housing options while protecting the character of our neighbourhoods.

At York Region, I’ve continued to advocate for responsible growth — growth that works for Stouffville, not against it.

💰 Fiscal Responsibility You Can Trust

Strong communities require strong financial leadership. The 2025 budget made critical investments in roads, parks, emergency services, and public spaces — while keeping Stouffville among the lowest tax rate municipalities in the GTA.

Careful planning today protects affordability tomorrow.

đźš“ Putting Community Safety First

In 2025, we acted decisively to improve safety:

  • Community Safety Cameras reduced speeding in school and community zones, but with new provincial legislation now banning them, we plan to invest in other traffic calming measures to ensure our streets remain safe.

  • A new fireworks by-law puts safety, peace of mind, and environmental protection first.

  • Our Fire & Emergency Services earned national recognition for leadership in fire prevention.

Public safety isn’t optional — it’s foundational.

🚆 Planning Ahead for Mobility & Growth

As our community grows, so must our transportation solutions. That’s why I brought forward a motion at York Region Council in December to explore innovative, on-demand transit and last-mile connections — ensuring Stouffville residents stay connected to jobs, services, and each other.

🤝 Leadership That Listens

Leadership starts with listening. In 2025, we expanded opportunities for residents to share feedback, participate in surveys, and help shape future budgets and priorities. I also continued my bi-yearly series of town hall meetings to ensure every opportunity to provide feedback was achieved.

Your voice matters — and it informs every decision I make.

The Work Continues

A new year brings new challenges — and new opportunities. I remain committed to providing steady leadership, clear accountability, and a strong voice for Whitchurch-Stouffville at both the local and regional level.

Together, we are building a community that is safe, desirable, and ready for the future.

Wishing you a happy and hopeful New Year.

Iain
