I sent a letter to the PM in March requesting consideration to expand the RNUP by adding the long debated Pickering Airport Lands to our beautiful urban park. These lands have been in limbo for over 50 years. The Feds have the opportunity to show leadership here if they wanted too. Today, my office received a response from the Minister of Transport. Apparently more studying is required!
“The Prime Minister’s Office provided me with your letter of March 8, 2022, regarding the Pickering Lands.
The Government of Canada continues to take a balanced approach to the management of the Pickering Lands to ensure that environmental, community, economic, and aviation demands are being met. Transport Canada is committed to an open and transparent process concerning the future development of the Pickering Lands. We continue to study all relevant factors related to the use of the land. At this time, no decision has been made on the development of an airport on the Pickering Lands.
Again, thank you for writing and sharing your comments with me. Allow me to assure you that they will be given every consideration.”
