It goes without saying that our council has been focused on attracting commercial development to Stouffville to balance our tax base. This vision was articulated at our first meeting of the term. Our council has passed 3 resolutions seeking the Provinces endorsement of designating strategic lands along the 404 as Provincially Significant Employment Zones. As well, York Regional Council has also endorsed our requests and moved similar motions to support our request. The 404 on the Stouffville side is an under-utilized provincial asset that needs to be strategically opened. I have previously written about this topic. You can find my Mayor’s Monthly here.
The presentation we received at our March 2 Council meeting from Mr. Stronach about his vision to locate his new personal electric vehicle (EV) world headquarters in Vandorf (404 & Aurora Rd) was most welcomed news. Desired investment like this in Stouffville tells me 2 things. 1. Entrepreneurs are taking notice of Stouffville as a safe place to invest. This particular site is exciting, in part to proximity to the 404, but also acknowledging Councils stability and open for business positioning. 2.Our hard work in economic development is working to balance our tax base.
The great news about this project is that the lands are located in the Vandorf Settlement Area, not the Greenbelt and will follow the planning process to execution.
I am deadly serious about attracting ICI investment into Stouffville and seeing more investments like this in our future.
Exciting days ahead!
Here’s the letter to council and proposed site plan.
