There have been a number of businesses popping up in town that are operating in areas without proper zoning- in residential areas for example. Every square inch of Whitchurch-Stouffville is zoned for particular allowed uses. You can check out your address HERE if you are interested. Unfortunately, the town only licences certain types businesses and many entrepreneurs don’t actually know they are breaking our bylaws.
I believe if the town had a formal business licensing program, many of these challenges caused by illegal use could be averted as the potential operator could find out quickly if the considered use at an address is allowed under our current zoning or not. My motion is asking staff to look at possible solutions so that we don’t have un-permitted uses showing up in our residential neighbourhoods.
