Mayor Iain Lovatt

Stouffville Housing Pledge

On August 22, 2023, the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville was assigned a housing target from the Province of 6,500 new homes to be constructed in our community by 2031.

An addendum report was provided yesterday to council and the public that clearly demonstrates 10929 units are in our development pipeline.

Supporting a Housing Pledge of 6500 units is not out of the realm of possibility for us in the next 8 years. By making our pledge, it also makes the town eligible for funding through the Build Faster Fund that the province announced at AMO this year.

Regardless of ones partisan leanings, supporting the housing pledge is a no brainer when we clearly have almost 60% more units under application than the pledge requests.

As previously stated, I will be supporting the staff report and the housing pledge.
